The
Cary Cemeteries
for Barbara Youngman, who baked delicious fly cemeteries (currant slices) from her grandmother’s recipe to serve at the Afters-Party for the Cary Valentine’s Dance in 2006.
1 – 4 1st
couple set and cast off one place as 2nd couple step up.
5 – 8 1st
couple dance right shoulder round 2nd corner to finish in front of
and facing 2nd corner on the 2nd corner diagonal.
9-16
The
Anvil
9-10 1st couple with 2nd
corners dance the first 2 bars of a half poussette into 2nd corner’s
partner’s place. All pull back right shoulder so that 1st couple face
anti-clockwise round the outside of the set and 2nd corners face
clockwise round the inside
WHILE
1st corners dance towards each
other, then turn right hand on bar 10 to finish on the 2nd corner
diagonal, facing own place, right hands joined (as in the first 2 bars of
corners pass and turn).
11-12 1st couple dance anti-clockwise
to the next corner position
WHILE
Corners dance
right hands across half way.
13-14 1st couple with own 1st
corner (from partner’s 2nd corner position) dance the first 2 bars
of a half poussette into 1st corner’s own place. 1st
couple pull back right shoulder to face clockwise round the inside of the set
WHILE
2nd corners half turn right hand
on bar 13 to finish on the 1st corner diagonal, facing own position,
then dance out to original corner place.
15-16 1st couple turn right hand
to face 1st corners.

– 20 1st couple dance half
diagonal reel of four with 1st corners, pulling back right shoulder
on bar 20 instead of passing left shoulders, to finish back to back facing partner’s
2nd corner.

– 24 1st couple dance half diagonal
reel of four with 2nd corners to finish back to back in 2nd
place in the centre of the set – woman facing up, man facing down. .

– 26 Warp and Weft (a figure to
return diagonally transposed corners to correct positions)
25 – 26 All advance for one (into two straight lines), retire for one.
27 – 28 2nd and 3rd couples half turn two hands
on the sideline, opening out to face across the set
WHILE
1st
couple spiral around one another right shoulder to face the opposite sideline.
29 – 30 All advance for one (into two straight lines), retire for one.
31 – 32 2nd and 3rd couples half turn partner two
hands to change places
WHILE
1st
couple spiral around one another right shoulder to 2nd place own
side.
Repeat the
dance having passed a couple.
